About the Facilities Improvement Program

Connecticut Department of Transportation (CTDOT) is revitalizing and expanding the existing New Haven Rail Yard (NHRY) into a state-of-the-art, coordinated facility that provides efficient and effective storage, dispatching, inspection, maintenance, and cleaning of rail cars.

Located on approximately 74 acres of state-owned land that comprises the existing NHRY site, the Facilities Improvement Program is being undertaken as multiple construction projects. Click on image at right to open a full size NHRY Location Site Map.

Facilities improvements will provide the space, equipment, and administrative support needed to operate and maintain a new generation of rail cars and will coordinate new facilities with existing facilities. CTDOT’s program of improvements to the NHRY will support rail transit services in the state of Connecticut well into the twenty-first century.
